Lin Banks of 500 Sugarbush Dr. in Waterloo, who has been active as educational co-ordinator within the chapter for the past three years, was chosen MS Mother of the Year. Banks, diagnosed " having Multiple Sclerosis four years ago, had her first contact with the Society when she and her husband met for " hour with a couple who were members of the local chapter. "That little hour meant so much to me - l was scared and wanted to know how others were coping - I felt that if I could do anything in response to that, as a thank you, I would do it," she explained. As educational co-ordinator, Banks has been in charge of meeting with and providing information to newly-diagnosed patients. Last fall, she organized a two-day workshop which was designed to help MS sufferers cope more effectively with their disease and from time to time she is also called to provide speakers for community, professional groups or monthly meetings of the local MS chapter. Over the last three years, the five minutes have turned into hours. said Banks, adding that the support of her children and husband John in helping with household tasks has made a tremendous difference to her pm gress. A former nurse and the mother of two children, Krista, is, and Michael, 11, she recalled that in the first months of her illness her activities were limited by the constant fatigue she felt.
