Mary Legary, Craft Coordinator for the Owl‘s Nest, hopes their Open House April 25 will attract more volunteers and encourage more people to get involved in their craft courses. Cindy Povey photo Cindy Povey Chronicle Staft Many people who shop at Waterloo Town Square don‘t know what they‘re missing when they don‘t use the lower mall. In this case, they‘re missing the Owl‘s Nest Craft Workshop. *‘*A lot._of people don‘t know we‘re here," said Mary Legary, craft coordinator. Thursday April 25. from 1 â€" 3 p.m., the Workshop will have an Open House for people over 40 "to wander in and see what it‘s all about." Just what is it all about? The Owl‘s Nest is the new location of craft activities of the Adult Recreation Centre. All kinds of crafts take place at the workshop including knitting, crocheting, dry flower arranging, nature crafts, sewing and also woodcarving. Some craft courses are ongoing and must be signed up for, while others are miniâ€"workshops that take place during the afternoon. Other times volunteers drop in to do work for them for their bazaars. The whole idea of the Ow!‘s Nest is to improve leisure time for seniors. According to Legary, the philosophy of ARC is, it is never too late, and a busy person is a happy person. The Owl‘s Nest has been in operation for a year, but has been part of ARC for 10 years. According to Legary, ARC is "buiging at the seams‘‘ so their new location has proven a much better arrangement. ‘‘"We think we have a pretty unique facility here in the mall, said Legary. ‘"They have been really supportive and quite good to us here. They‘re very accommodating." Recently, the Owl‘s Nest started on a new venture, prompted by the women who participate in the workshop. **We kept hearing from the women who come in that their husbands sit at home and don‘t do anything. We decided to put together lectures for options for leisure time." The series, which is called Hobbies for Him, is free and runs from April 12 to May 17. Registrations are limited to 25 participants per session . The Open House, which will be their second since they‘ve been in operation, will include demonstrations and refreshments. "At some point, later in time, we‘d also like to have an outâ€"reach function," said Legary. We can see expanding it outside craft projects." "It‘s doing well," said Legary about the workshop. ‘‘We have a regular group, but we‘d like to expand it because of this new facility. We would like more volunteers and more people taking our courses."‘ Owl‘s Nest a gem in lower mall of Square \SC tradition of yes a t ‘ A SUNDAY MORNING SPECIAL _ ALL YOU CAN BOWL FOR $3.50 10 a.m.â€"12 noon Free Shoes Mondays 9:00 p.m., Thursdays 7:00 & 9:00 p.m WATERLOO BOWLING LANES OPEN BOWLING INQUIRE NOW REGARDING LANES AVAILABLE FOR 1985â€"86 SEASON Call For Available Times Saturday 11:30 a.m.â€"10 p.m. Sunday 10:00 a.m.â€"10 p.m. 14 Princess St. West 886â€"2900 or 886â€"2370 ‘"Lowest Rates in Town" OWLING Snack Bar the tradition of yesterday . the enterprise of today . . . the challenge of tomorrow, For government you can count _ on.
