The Waterloo Region Community Information Centre has launched a major capital campaign to fund its move into the computer age. At a press conference last week, details were announced of a threeâ€"month campaign to raise $75,000 from local businesses, to be used for the purchase and installation of data storage and retrieval equipment. F Great Cures for Bored Kids “ Chronicle Staff According to Information Centre Executive Director Ernie Ginsier, the move to a compuâ€" terized system is necessary to improve the accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness of the centre‘s operation. ‘Putting it quite simply, the Information Centre has something over 3,000 card files. They‘re all crossâ€"referenced and information may appear on file three, four or even halfâ€"aâ€"dozen times. We‘ve got so much informaâ€" tion that to update it manually takes an inordinate amount of time," he said. Data on file is not only used directly by centre volunteers who respond to some 20,000 inquires from the public annually, but also in the various directories published by the Information Cenâ€" tre.
