Chronicle Statft A new Canadian ecumenical journal launched by the Universityâ€" of St. Jerome‘s College in Waterloo won‘t be available until March, but already the response has been enthusiastic and heartwarming, according to Editorial Board Chairman Doug Letson. The new journal, Grail: An Ecumenical Journal, already has more than 1,100 subscripâ€" tions with more requests coming in every day. *‘*‘We have subscriptions from every province in the country. We have quite a few subscripâ€" tions from the United States, some from Rrazil, Mexico, England and New Zealand," said Letâ€" Grail, will be published quarterly by the Roman Catholicâ€"based College. According to Letson it is the product of several people but basically boils down to three: Rev. Norman Choate, Michael Higgins and himself{. Others on the editorial board are Robert Donelson, Kenneth McLaughlin, Betsy Abbott and Ted McGee. They decided to form the journal "principally because there‘s nothing like it around. There‘s an obvious need for something that is nonâ€"tradiâ€" tional and that will provide an indepth study for the average educated individual. There‘s nothâ€" ing in Canada like it. We‘ve received a.lot of letters saying it‘s about time." Lynnbrook Cres., entry via basement window, jewelry taken. Waterloo St., unknown if anyâ€" thing missing. High St.. entry via window, nothing taken. According to Letson, the importance of Grail is two things. It‘s a Canadian journal and its purpose is to take ideas expressed in universiâ€" ties and make the information more widely available. He said it‘s designed so anyone can read it because it doesn‘t use university jargon. He ailso said the graphics are interesting and nonâ€"intimidating. "Grail will provide a contemporary probe into issues of current concerns and religious imporâ€" Waterloo Re£onal Police report the following break and enters for the week Feb. 4â€"11. = S Dec. 22, 1984 an alert member of a neighbor Inquiries far and wide in search of Grail Break and enters AQUA SOFT SOFT WATER 144â€"2248 hood Watch Group in Cambridge reported a break and enter at her neighbor‘s home. People on the editorial board for the new journal were selected from across the country for a geographical breadth. *‘*We looked for people with experience in journals and publication and people who are sympathetic with what we are doing. We also looked for a breadth of academic background." *‘*Many were willing and anxious to be on the editorial board and a part of it. Everybody there wants to be there and wants to be part of making it go. A lot even bought subscriptions for friends." tance. It is intended for the nonâ€"specialist and is designed to explore ecumenical insights in the spirit of Vatican II." ‘ The title of the journal comes from a medieval story of quest. The story includes a knight who searches for a grail, a cup which had supposedly caught the blood of Christ when he was pierced on the cross. "It‘s a wellâ€"known symbol and its sign is religious. We used Grail as the title because we wanted to catch the social and quest motif." _ This is a fine example of Police and the Community Working Together, to the benefit of all concerned. The journal will include a regular section called Forum as well as a section on Arts and Media previewing and reviewing of cinema, radio, television and art galleries in Canada. The journal will also include occasional poetry and short fiction. Included in the journal‘s overwhelming reâ€" sponse is a significant response from libraries and school boards. Letson also said that a lot of bookstores in the area want to sell it and libraries in Ontario want to stock it. He said they have had bookstores as far as British Columbia that have written for it. A one year subscription to the journal will cost $10 and two years $18.
