The annual Gold Puck tournament began in I975 and since that time only two Wa- terloo teams have been finalists in any of the three divisions. Woodworth has coached both teams. He led Waterloo juve- niles to the champion- ship in 1975 and this year his minor midgets lost 4-2 to Hamilton Huskies in the final Splendid Gold Puck for Waterloo midgets Waterloo's junior A and debs ringette teams were on the road Sunday. The junior A's lost to Oshawa while the debs were defeating Scar- boro, Saturday, the junior A's and belle A's hosted teams from Pickering and came away with victories while the junior B's played to a 4-4 draw in Cambridge. H Last Wednesday, Waterloo's petites travelled to Cambridge and lost 7-2. Before that, the tween B's hosted Mississauga and won 8-3. Brad Kit had given the locals a 1-0 lead in the championship game, but Huskies took command in the second period with two goals from Rob Scriven and a single marker from Jamie Simpson. Rich Goode put Wa- terloo back in conten- tion with a third period goal, but John Miszuk wrapped it up for Hus- kies with a late empty net goal. Huskies' goalie Dar ryl Culver was sharp in a power play situation early in the third period. Later. he made a big save on Tony MeCauley's breaka- way effort and Doug Cote's try at the re- bound. Waterloo played without right winger Brad Hyde, who was injured in an accident in the dressing room after a game on Fri- day. Kit and Scriven were named MVP's for their respective teams. 1n the three prelimi- nary games, Kit and Cote had each scored twice for Waterloo while Tim Webb, Bob Plate, Rick Rehkopf, McCauley and Rich Goode were single scorers. In major midget competition, Robert Arabsky was Brant- ford's MVP. He scored twice, as did teammate Brendon Roach, and Jeff White was the other marksman. St. Catharines goals went to MVP Steve Atkinson and Jim Luft- man. Tony Mansfield had the shutout for the win- ning Brampton juve- nile team and Darrin Hunter scored twice. Single goals went to Derek Male, Peter Mirault and team MVP Allan Burns. Goaltender Wayne Skelton was named MVP for Owen Sound. Waterloo's juveniles lost 7-3 to the winning Brampton entry and 8-2 to Gait. They also tied 3-3 with Woolwich. Rob Kempel had four goals in the three games and Waterloo major midgets lost all three of their games. 6-0 to St. Catharines and 3-2 to both Stratford and Chatham. Scoring for Waterloo were Greg Munroe, Don Oberle. Dean de Silva and Jim Way. Pete Bauiir added three. Rob Hunter was their other scorer. The tournamenCs format was changed this year to allow all games to be played in one weekend.
