The suc- cess of these placements is the result of a careful interview and application process to understand the wants and needs of both the volunteer and the agency, and follow-up calls ensure that both are pleased with the match. While the demand for volunteers has constantly been high. volun- teer participation seems to vary according to the time of year. Summer was a slow time but since the beginning of September a much larger number of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds have contacted the Service. The Volunteer Placement Ser- vice is funded by a 48-week grant trom the federal government; the Service is seeking sources of ongoing funding since the grant will run out in mid-February of 1985. The demand for volunteer help and for rewarding volunteer positions is growing steadily. The Volunteer Placement Service can be contacted in the Victoria Park Pavilion at 742-8610. ingram’s prize for the win is an allexpense-paid. two-week trip to England this spring. where he will participate in a Commonwealth student debating competition.
