They have all contributed to a cleanlyâ€"run campaign, with conflicts essentially being restricted to matters of party policy, rather than cheap shots and mudâ€"slinging. That‘s the way the game should be played, and that‘s the way it was. Whether unfortunate or not, Liberal Lynn Myers has been forced to bear the image of Pierre Trudeau and John Turner wherever he goes. Surprisingly, especially after his muchâ€"ballyhooed win over Frank Epp, Myers almost disappeared from sight during the early weeks of the _ election campaign, and you simply can‘t allow a veteran like McLean that much of a head start. But Myers has pocketed the experience of Campaign ‘84, and will be the better for it next time around. We have no problem whatsoever in forwarding the name of Walter McLean as our choice to represent the riding of Waterloo as our next Member of Parliament. Not that this endorsement should have any earthâ€"shatterâ€" _ing ramifications for the other three candidates, since McLean is touted a clear headâ€"andâ€"shoulders selection when voters flock to the voting booths next Tuesday. We just happen to think Walter is the most deserving of those in the running to represent us. Yes, because he has done such a good job as our incumbent, with a track record of placing humanity and individual conscience as top priorities. But also because he, in addition to being an effective politician, is a man of integrity and strong beliefs, an individual whose roots in his community allow him to understand it and represent its wants and desires in the federal political arena. Walter has done more than a good job for us in Ottawa, he has done a commendable one in pursuing such ideals as world peace, human rights and a better environment, both working and social, for this constituency. He deserves a chance to show us that as an MP on the governing side of the floor, his voice, his opinions and his pursuit of values will carry even more weight in the decision-making process. He has earned that opportunity, and next week at this time, should have it. In backing Walter as the best rhnina «_ qL c . 0 . .
