The grants include: e $25,000 to Profs. Robert Farâ€" volden, Robert Gillham and Emil Frind, of UW‘s institute for groundwater research, for studies into pollution problems from leaâ€" chates in sanitary landfill operaâ€" e $22,500 to Profs. Robert Gillâ€" ham and James Barker, also of the institute for groundwater reâ€" search, for studies into the use of industrial liquid wastes as dust suppressants on roads. e $65,000 to Prof. Frank Karaâ€" sek, chemistry department, for three separate studies: (1) $15,000 to study the harmful chemicals PCDD and PCDF and their emisâ€" sion from smokestacks; (2) anâ€" other $25,000 to study the leaching of PCDD and PCDF from fly ash from municipal incinerators, and (3) $25,000 for a study of chemicals used in water treatment plants.
