If you‘re tired of freezing your buns off waiting to see the Ok- toberfest and Santa Claus parades, then the Sounds of Summer parade may be more to your liking. Parade organizer, Phil MacArthur is hop- ing warm weather will help in bringing fami- lies out to see a good parade. MacArthur, also a member of the Okto- berfest parade com- mittee, is genuinely in- terested in putting a good show together. Coinciding with the old tyme picnic theme of the weekend. the parade will be full of nostalgia. "This parade is real- ly going to be a chal- lenge. Since we're working with such a small budget, the parade will have to make it on creativity," says MacArthur. Led by marshall Raffi Armenian of the K-W Symphony, the parade will feature top drum and bugle corps from around the prov- ince. Highlighting the performances will be the Canadian Knights from Peterborough. The Knights are reign- ing Canadian cham- pions. Also on hand will be the Burlington Teen Tour Band. The Teen Tour have played in the Rose and Orange Bowl parades as well as a tour of Europe. MacArthur is expect- ing about 10 floats to join in the procession. The two universities and the uptown busi- ness merchants will all have float entries. Classic car buffs are in for a treat as models from yesteryear will be showcased in the parade. The Historical Automobile Society has donated everything from a '26 Graham tow truck to a Model T. Jeepsters and old mo- torcycles will be part of the Shriners contribu- tions to the parade. " you should be ad- dressed by a stranger and asked to pledge allegiance to fun, don't be scared. Members of Excellence Unlimited will be travelling the parade route swearing people to fun, some- thing they take very seriously. The fun aspect of the parade Is very impor- tant, according to Mac- Arthur. "The weather will be great.
