Chronicle Staff Parents, be warned. School is out in less than two weeks. \ If you‘re looking for something to do with your children during the long summer holiday, Jane Brenneman and her staff of the Waterloo North day Camp may provide the answer. A pilot project partially funded by the federal government, the camp is open to children ages five to 10 and will run from June 28 to August Y . _ @7# .‘ {i IT PAYS T0 ADVERTISE ... Waterioo 886â€"6200 According to Brenneman, coâ€"ordinator of the project, the day camp has been designed to ‘"cater to working parents living in the North Waterioo area â€" we offer supervision from 6: 30 a.m. to 6: 30 p.m. for parents who have to get to work early and can‘t pick up their children ‘til late." She added that although it is "great for working parents‘"‘ it is not exclusively for them. "It‘s a great break for moms and dads, and just a great place for them to drop off their kids." With a staff of five, plus a possibility of six volunteers, the camp is sponsored by the Allâ€"Saints Anglican Church and Waterioo North Presbyterian Church, and program activities will be held at the Church Campus on Northfield Drive or at the Laure! Creek Conservation Auâ€" thority. Planned camp activities range from swimâ€" ming and boating to art, crafts, gardening, sporis and drama. â€" o _ _ "With the space we have there‘s a lot of possibilities," said Brenneman, who is completâ€" ing an honors degree in recreation and social work at UW. "Also, not all will be structured activities â€" part of the day kids will be able to do what they want; to work in groups of kids they like working with." In previous years the two churches have offered weekâ€"long camps and bible camps, but they decided to expand their program this year after a survey revealed at least 50 families in the North Lakeshore area are in need of the serâ€" vice. "In this area there are a lot of twoâ€"parent working families, and a lot of young kids. They saw a real need for a day camp with a quality program,"‘ Brenneman said. A steering committee composed of church members was established and funding for the project obtained through the Summer Canada program. If the camp proves to be a success it will be offered again next summer, but it will be totally selfâ€"supporting. Cost of the program is $10 a day for the first child, $8 daily for the second and $5 for the third. Brenneman stressed that the camp is strictly nonâ€"profit and all money will go to support program activities. Attendtance for the camp is limited to 40. Parents can register their children for a half or whole day, by the week or month. For additional information contact Brenneman at the Church Campus, 888â€"7870.
