'So darn much to see' on annualtour A sunny summer Sunday. A slow, lazy bicycle tour of Waterloo’s parkland areas with friends. Sound good? Then set aside Sunday. June 24, when Waterloo’s cycling committee will be holding its second annual cycling toot. _ _ "The focus of this tour is fun for all ages. It's a fairly-easy course - children can make it and a TO-year-old can do it," said Mark Whaley of the cycling committee. The tour, which takes two hours to complete including a 20-minute break half way. will leave the Marsland Centre parking lot at 2 p.m. and travel through Waterloo Park. the University of Waterloo campus, and Laurel Conservation Area, using "picturesque" bicycle trails on the return leg. The tour is approximately 20 kilometres long, but Whaley stressed. "people shouldn't be intimidated by the distance. It sounds much further than it really is - when you are cycling it's a very pleasant little ride pp. there's so darn much to see." wesmoumr PLACE, WATERLOO 7401022 9:30 um an. THURS. J SUMMER SALE 29-50% on Select fashions Last year more than 80 people took part in the first ride and, Whaley added, most of these were seniors whose only complaint was that the route was too short. Whaley is hopeful " many " 200 cyclists will participate this summer. He noted that a "sag wagon" provided by the Waterloo regional police will follow the tour to assist riders who are having problems with their bikes or are too tired to complete the tour. A second tour for more experienced cyclists is scheduled for later this summer, which will take participants to the kissing bridge in West Mon- trose. The cycling committee was established last year by Waterloo council "to promote cycling in every aspect," said Whaley. In addition to the tours, the committee sponsors a bicycle tune up clinic each spring. is preparing cycling tour maps for distribution to tourists and provides recommendations to the city's engineering department on ways to improve bicycling safety in Waterloo. - IOU-BIBS WaterIoo collegiate ammo prom Quinlan MOW.
