More than 40 secondary school students, winners of mathematics competitions held annually in Waterloo County schools will be the guests of honor at the inaugural Waterloo County mathematics awards night, tonight at the education centre. Conceived by the Waterioo County mathemaâ€" tics association, the evening is designed to recognize student excellence in mathematics in the Region‘s public high schools. Students attending are winners of the countyâ€"wide junior and senior math league contests, the Canadian mathematics competition, sponsored by the University of Waterloo and the individual winner of the senior math contest award, sponsored in part by the Actuarial Society of America. Upon arrival at the education centre at 4: 00 p.m., the students were divided into teams to participate in a fun program of math games. These activities have been developed by the awards committee and Bill Proctor, a math consultant with the Waterloo County board of education.
