This presentation promotes CPR (cardioâ€" pulmonary resuscitaâ€" tion) within the comâ€" munity and features local talent and the resources of Emerâ€" gency Services organiâ€" zations and the medical community. Ergonomics It‘s a term that most people haven‘t heard of yet, but may well cost taxpayers in Waterloo Region $40,000 in the coming year. Ergonomics is the study of the relationship between individuals and their work or workâ€" ing environment, especially with regard to fitting jobs to the needs and abilities of students or staff, according to a report presented to the Waterloo County Board of Education Thursday night. In the report entitled Safety, Health and Minimum Standards for Instructional Comâ€" puter Facilities it was disclosed that the rooms in which the computers are set up may be more dangerous to student and teacher health than radiatfon from the display termiâ€" nals. CPR documentary tonight on cable Proper lighting, furniture, air conditioning may well reduce the eye strain suffered from using the computer terminals for long periods of time according to committee chairman Mike Hearn. _ In the region there are now 20 computer labs in the schools which may cost approximately $40,000 to correct. s o "Every situation is different and will have to be addressed individually. It may cost us a lot less to fix up the labs, but then again it could also cost a lot more,"" Hearn said. Assisting the school board in their study were Drs. Emerson Woodruff and Barbara Robinson from the University of Waterloo‘s School of Optometry. Students in Waterloo Region now use computers for no more than 20 minutes a day. Following the presentation trustees acceptâ€" ed the report and recommended that a letter be sent to the ministry of education voicing the concerns raised by the report and recommending a study be done using the Waterloo County Board of Education as part of the pilot project because of the proximity of the University of Waterloo with its computer resources. night at 8:00 p.m. on Cable 4 TV. Instrucâ€" tors are all local peoâ€" ple, certified by the Ontario Heart Foundaâ€" tion, and come from varied backgrounds such as ambulance serâ€" vice, fire department, police force, nursing, teaching, and sports and firstâ€"aid related occupations. All courses are given acâ€" cording to Canadian Heart Foundation stanâ€" dards on a cost recovâ€" ery basis. « The fourâ€"hour Heart «Raver level course can be provided at a time and location of your choice for groups of 6â€"8 people (or multiples of 6â€"8).
