"They are going to have to account to us when problems arise." A longâ€"term objective of CARAL is the establishment of comprehensive contraâ€" ceptive and abortion counselling serâ€" vices. Members of the group have begun sending out letters to organizations within the community informing them of the existence of CARAL and outlining its aims. Last night CARAL held its first public meeting at the Adult Recreation Centre in Waterioo to explain what CARAL hopes to accomplish locally, recruit additional members and gather input from members of the community . The local chapter has aiso set up a support fund to hbelp pay the court expenses of doctors and staff members of the Morgentaler clinc. Approximately $100 has already been collected, said Saunders, and a fundraising event is currently being planned for later this year. But most of the group‘s efforts in the next two months will be directed towards preparations for Oct. 1 National CARAL Lobbying Day. Local plans have not yet been finalized but members hope to hold either a march or a large meeting in Kitâ€" chenerâ€"Waterioo. "We will go to the MP‘s or MPP‘s office with a petition that we want the abortion laws to be taken out of the‘criminal code,"" explained Saunders . As for her own participation in CARAL, Saunders said that during the Morgenâ€" taler raids she realized that it was "time to get going and stand up for our rights. If we want to change things; the only way we can do it is by participation."
