Director Lewis John Carlino â€" who has actually done some class directorial work in pictures like The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea and The Great Santini as well as being an awardâ€"winning writer of stage and screen plays â€" deserves considerable criticism here too. He seems mainly to have gone for the kneeâ€"jerk effect, both in scenes of humor and in those of supposed seriousness, and he has not plumbed any of the potential belowâ€"theâ€"surface response from either the situations or the perâ€" formers.
