The k-W Amateur Radio Club took part in annual Field Day emergency preparedness tests last weekend with headquarters set up at Centennial Park. Maryjane Wilson of Rexdale just received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University's spring eonvoea» tion - after 20 years of attending university lectures. all taken part-tinte, Since September of 1962. when Wilson decided to take a geography of Canada course offered by Laurier in tJrangeville. she has slowly but surely completed enough courses to graduate. Married. 2ryears-old. and teaching kinder» garlen at the time, Wilson began taking courses in order to become more aware of herself and the world around her She began teaching after a year of teacher's college following Grade 13. At that lime. public school teachers were not required In have university degrees and most didn't. Since then. educational standards and requirements for teachers have become much more stringent. leading many teachers lo upgrade their educations something Wilson had already begun lo do. And like thousands of her fellow teachers. she attended university classes through Laurier's part-time studies program while continuing her full-time occupation. Wilson says many of her university courses-especial- ly those in psychology and sociology _ have given her a greater understanding of her job.
