KITCHENER PHONE 762-1 841 It matters little to coach Cliff Barry that his Region of Waterloo Swim Club had nearly twice the points of the nearest club in week- end competition. ROW’s JrnitiFrrNitPttersort makes waves doing the breast- stroke during invitational meet this weekend at Wilfriti Laurier What does matter, however, is the fact that it was good prep- aration for the seven ROW swimmers leav- ing for the prestigious Youth Cup in Edmon- ton May 12-15. University. It was such good preparation. in fact, that five of the seven swimmers recorded a total of 11 firsts in their events as the host ROW club won its fourth an- nual invitational swim meet at Wilfrid Laurier University. ROW swimmers amassed 914 points while Brampton was second with 458.5 and 'NMAC was third at 372. Helping ROW were three first place tim ishes each by Todd Major. Tyler Clair and Jennifer McElroy while Nancy Woodhall and Jennifer McPher- son both had one first to their credit. Those five, along with Tim Major and Lesley Hor. ton. are all going to Edmonton to compete with swimmers from all provinces as well as teams from as far away as Florida. There were a lot of sprints in the meet (and that) makes them race tough." 7 There were about 300 swimmers from 17 clubs at this year's ROW meet and nearly that many had to be turned away.
