A week ago Sunday Waterâ€" loo hosted Galt for the final game in their playoff series There was a look of determiâ€" nation in the boys‘ eyes as they stepped on the ice for the opening faceoff. From the start the Panthers made sure there would be another OMHA series as they totally dominatâ€" ed Galt. At 1:49 Mike Wilson comâ€" bined with Sean Van Koughâ€" nett and Cam Mott to score what proved to be the winner. Three minutes later Derek McKinnon swept around the defence and slipped a perfect relay on Chris Schumilas‘ stick. Chris found Rich Metzger all alone at the side of the net and Rich banged home the relay. Waterloo picked up their third goal of the period as Paul Kostecki fed Geoff Whent in the slot area. Geoff manâ€" aged to get the puck over to Tim Kinkade as he fired the first of two goals for him. Waterloo continued to pour it on as Scott Geffros finished off a nice play from Tim Kinkade early in the second period At the 3: 15 mark Waâ€" terloo took advantage of a power play as Chris Schumilas slipped a Derek MacKinnon rebound under the fallen goalie. Even the defence got in on the act as Geoff Whent fed a perfect pass out to Jon Weland at the point Jon made no mistake as he ripped home a high hard wrist shot from 25 feet _ Team Canadians Flyers Cougars Knights Red Wings Leafs After drawing both defenâ€" cemen over Cam slipped the puck out to Tim who rifled a low shot passed the startled goaltender. In the first game (which was part of the playoff season) all of the Whalers performed strongly in a very close game. The first period saw the play move back and forth quickly from one end to the other. with the Wasps‘ Martin Dziak putâ€" ting a good shot into the Whalers‘ net. A few minutes later the tying goal was scoured by Craig Young after his linemates Ryan Hume and Peter Sloan mounted a strong rush against the Wasps‘ deâ€" fence. In the opening game of round two of O.M.H.A. the Panthers met their crossâ€"town rivals the Kitchener Kruisers and came up short by a 4â€"0 score. The defence, especially goaltenders‘ Mark Ellacott and Troy Miller, played outâ€" standing hockey in keeping the offenseâ€"minded Kitchener team to only four goals. Unforâ€" tunately Waterloo couldn‘t get untracked in the scoring deâ€" partment. The second period was scoreless, although both teams had a number of excellent scoring opportunities Whalers‘ goalie Cra _ Miller made two superb sav s Andrew Stilwell, Rob Wool stencroft, and Stephen Bell came close many times to notching goals. Early in the third period the Whalers went ahead with Stilwell knocking in a rebound from Woolstenâ€" croft‘s shot after a pass from Bell. The Wasps came stormâ€" ing back and goaler Andrew McMillan had to be on his toes in order to make a number of crucial saves. Just after the Whalers had kept the Wasps at bay during a penalty â€" and with less than a minute left in the game â€" Lee Seabrook put a nice shot in the net to produce a tie.
