Ice Capades knows audience Chronicle Staff Rick Campbell It has many glowing attributes, but beneath the glitter and showcase presented by Ice Capades at Kitchener Aud Tuesday night lies ghe secret to the success of America‘s ‘"No. 1 Family Show"‘. -A-r;dâ€" who better to reveal that secret than the lovable Smurfs in their It‘s Fun to Be a Smurf routine. â€" â€" _ As they glide off the ice following their adorable skit, the narrator sums up the sequence by saying ‘"you see, confidence and knowâ€"how go a long, long way." _ He wasn‘t talking only about the Smurfs. The statement covered the entire show. â€" _ If ever a production played to the wants and desires of a predominantly â€" youthful audience on opening night. Ice Capades hit the nail dead on the head, not only with the furry Smurfs, but also with an evenâ€"paced, highlyâ€"artistic program. No sector of the audience was left wanting at the end as the various acts touched all bases of precision, choreoâ€" graphy, technical excellence, and yes, oh my yes comedy in a show that is distinctly different from the program offered here a year ago. _ _ _ Comedians Gigi Percelly and Steve Pedley twice drew the audience to the edge of their seats with sideâ€"splitting, if somewhat predictable classic slapstick routine. Their Biddy and Baddy clown routine in the show‘s second half is acca‘s as \ 4 your child %% changes IhHEkK }| Sears studios specialize in photographic portraits of babies, children. adults and family groups No appointment is necessary There is a 95¢ charge for each additional subject in a portrait package. but no limit to the number of packages you may purchase We present only tinished portrai‘s of the best poses Studios in most larger Sears retail stores. But of course, the popularity contest went hands down to the Smurfs, replacing the Alice at the Wonderland Ball robtine with a less elaborate, but more magnetic producâ€" tio:\Like lemmings to the sea, thildren in the audience swarmed to the side of the ice to catch a closer glimpse and perhaps a handshake from one of the newer breeds of cartoon kingdom. Among the artistic skating efforts, Richard Ewell, the first black skater to ever compete internationally, disâ€" played tremendous strength and control both in Coolin‘ It and The Joint is Jumpin‘ segment of Juke Box Jamboree. Other highlights included sharp coâ€"ordination from Frank Sweiding and Beth Flora, the spectacular windup to The Visitors routine of Tony Paul and Terry Pagano, the enthusiasm of Leslie Percelly replacing Judy Shaull in My Heart Belongs to Daddy and the aweâ€"inspiring precision of the Ice Capettes and Ice Cadets.
