The audience joins in the singing of Silent Night as the Processional takes place and the Dominion Life Choir The demand for electricity reaches its peak between 5 and 7 on weekday evenings. That‘s because many stores, factories and offices are still open. And at home, more lights are coming on; the heat is being turned up; meals are cooking; more hot water is being used and TV viewing increases. This all adds up to create an electrical rush hour. One way to reduce this peak is to do everything possible to avoid wasting electricity. Another is to shift some of the major uses of electricity â€" the ones you don‘t really have to do between 5 and 7 â€" to other times of the day. If everyone in our utility did this, it would help considerably to keep Hydro rates down because Waterioo North Hydro buys power from Ontario Hydro at a rate that is partially based on the highest monthly â€"peak. The higher the peak, the more facilities are required for generating and distributing electricity. And they cost money. Lowering costs now will help keep future rate increases to a minimum .
