The Canadian Indusâ€" trial Innovation Centre as part of the Universiâ€" ty of Waterloo‘s 25th Anniversary celebraâ€" tions is presenting the IBM Canada Ltd. exhiâ€" bition of Leonardo da Vinci inventions. Leonardo also foreâ€" saw the helicopter. His aerial screw is the forerunner of this airâ€" craft and its design makes it the prototype of today‘s ships‘ proâ€" peller as well. Leonardo‘s genius is the closest to ‘us, perâ€" haps, in his mechanical studies and devices and in his military designs. His machine guns, steam guns and breechâ€"loading canâ€" nons representing treâ€" mendous strides in arâ€" mament making and many of his ideas plainly foreshadowed twentiethâ€"century deâ€" velopment. Perhaps the most startling of these are his armoured car, ancestor of today‘s tank and his mechaniâ€" cal bow that could hurl flaming projectiles suggestive to the modâ€" ern flamethrower. In addition to his other amazing achieveâ€" ments, Leonardo deâ€" signed canals that are still in use in Italy. On approval of the application, the rebate will be paid by the City, to the owner, by the end of the calendar year 1982. A copy of the invoices paid to a private contractor will be required to be submitted with each application.
