As we have seen during the last 12 months, all is not doom and gloom here in Waterloo. Dozens and dozens of new ventures have been starting, and many existing businesses have been expanding. Waterloo businessman Marian Pillach opened a new art gallery in Waterioo yesterday. _Area people continue to dream, to set goals, and. t_o___vyork hard to ;tâ€":c:'tiu;;s;jz(')als fulfilled â€" despite depressing news accounts of a Canadian economic slump. _ One such local businessman is Marian Pillach, owner of Picture Framing World Gal_lery“ 12. Six years ago, the Polishâ€"born picture framing craftsman saw a lifetime dream come true with the opening of his own gallery and framing store located on Universiâ€" ty Avenue at King Street. _ His aspirations at the time were to "enlarge the gallery so I can display even more _Canadian art." "I have been looking for a long time for property to supply the potentia! I want," the 46â€"yearâ€"old said. Recently he found such a spot at 95 Bridgeport Rd. E., opposite the Dutch Boy supermarket. Pilâ€" lach renovated the building, tranâ€" forming it into "a little house which is very appealing. When you walk in it‘s just like walking into a little museum .‘ He paved an area of land to provide 15 parking spots. The site has the potential to accommodate up to 30 cars and a major addition to the building. And so another dream has come true for Marian Pillach, with yesterday‘s opening of the new Bridgeport Road gallery. To mark this week‘s grand opening, he is featuring a show containing more than 60 original works by four major Ontario artists â€" Woldemar Neufeld, A. H. Lacey, D. R. Hall and Robert L. Myers. ‘"The public will enjoy some of the finest works" by artists from this area. Pillach said. Artwork by Canadians is Pilâ€" lach‘s main focus. "I promised myself that 1 would be dealing more and more with Canadian art." And he sees a rosy future for this country‘s artists. "Artists in Canada have one of the greatest potentials to fulfill the hunger for quality art." In his mind, this is primarily due to the talent of our young generation. More and more people are rea lizing that good artwork *‘is the best investment in the world." the businessman said. "I want to expand and continue to serve Waterloo County and this part of Ontario with my very unique business," which includes not only selling and framing artwork, but also offering advice on a painting‘s value, restoration potential., and preservation. At present Pillach plans to keep his original University Avenue business open as both a gallery and a framing store. But eventual ly he would like to turn that site into a framing centre, complete with an area for designing and crafting his own mouldings. The Bridgeport Road location would then be expanded into a larger galâ€"
