Only nine months into its campaign. UW has already raised $9 million of the $21 million it has targeted for the Watfund. said Dellandrea. This included $1.50 million pledged from UW's students, which will go towards construction of the new athletic complex on the north campus, and approximately $5.25 million from corpora- lions. "We're doing very well to this point," Dellandren said, adding that fundraising has been "nore difficult "in terms of small to medium-sized businesses which are experienc- ing very tough times. "I believe we have a good cause," said Millar. "It's in the national interest to support higher education. "Society would be hard pressed without good higher educational facilities," she continued. The Watfund will give financial backing to these following campus additions: $3 million to an arena-athletic complex for the north campus, $4 million for a building to house UW's new Institute for Computer Research; $2.5 million for research labs for the kinesiology and health studies departments; " million for earth sciences; " million for an engineering- mathematics-sciences library; $1.5 million for special engineering labs. Money raised by WLU will be used to finance an addition to the WLU library. add a music teaching wing to the theatre auditorium, update computer equipment, renovate science labora- tories, improve and redesign the sehooi's dining hail, update athletic equipment and facilities and install new telephone equipment. Currently, said Dellandrea. UW's campaign is concentrating on a number of major corpora- tions and foundations for donations.
