This gala event is again taking place at the Bingeman Park Ballroom on Friday, Sept. 24, from 6: 30 p.m. to 1: 00 a.m. The event, which was over subscribed last year and will have a ticket cutâ€"off of 900 this year, is chaired by Thorne, Riddell Partner Gerry Hooper and his wife, Margie. Island Fantasy has tradionally been one of the featured events of the Twin Cities, highâ€" lighted by classy food â€" more than 19 dishes â€" specially selected wines, Jamaican rum punch, Jamaican cofâ€" fee, and continuous music from two bands. The ticket chairman is Waterloo insurance executive Art Schooâ€" ley, who indicates that the ticket price has increased only $3 per couple, to $50, for this year‘s event. All proceeds go to the support of the Kâ€"W Roâ€" tary Centre and continâ€" ue to make a contribuâ€" tion towards the recent 2,000 square foot addiâ€" In addition, the Waâ€" terloo club has been a good supporter of Junâ€" ior Achievement, and last year made a major contribution towards Operational Eyesight Universal. Through funds raised by the Waterloo club, approximately 200 catâ€" aract eye operations will be performed for people in Third World Countries. Over the years Island Fantasy has developed a good reputation for its food. The food comâ€" mittee is being headed up by local educator Bob Sommerville and his wife, Delene, and Harold Zister of Cenâ€" tral Ontario Television Ltd.. and his wife, OPPOSITE HIâ€"WAY MARKET Carolyn. Island Fantasy‘s menu will feature such hits as fisherman‘s wharf salad (a seafood combo of shrimp, crab and lobster), seven isâ€" land salad, windjamâ€" mer spinach salad, marinated mushâ€" rooms, shrimp au naâ€" turel, smoked oysters, beef terryaki, finger sweets and fresh fruit. The tone of the eveâ€" ning will be set by the decorating chairman Gord Reidlinger, presiâ€" dent of Ornamental Moldings, and his wife, Jean. As guests enter the foyer at Bingeman Park, they will be treated to colorful windsurfers, palm trees and mum plants, along with pictures of West Indies Islands. Guests will then enter the ballroom through a brand new trellis to an island scene created with wall hangings, sail boats, palm trees, and sun bursts. Huge hibiscus flowers will also be featured throughout the room. After the dinner, which runs from 7 to 9 p.m., guests can take advantage of the Waâ€" terloo club‘s wellâ€" stocked bar. Wayne Van Wagner, a local insurance executive, and his wife, Les, are in charge of three cash As last year, reserâ€" vations can be obtained in advance for a table of eight or more. Upon arrival, guests will be treated to rum punch and vegetable trays. Admission tickets also include a chance on a draw for a week for two in Jamaica, arranged through Vic Foster Travel. Tickets can be obâ€" tained in advance from the Rotary Centre, or from any of the local Waterloo Rotarians.
