On a mantel shelf in her Waterloo home are several tro- phies from her riding school, and she has ribbons and certificates from every year she has eompet- ed in the Stratford Kiwanis Fes- tival. b But the prize that's thrilled Jennifer the most recently is a $1,000 bursary enabling her to attend the Toronto High School for the Performing Arts. "This year, at the Kiwanis Festival in Stratford, I won a cash prize which I used to pay the audition fee at the High School for the Performing Arts." Jennifer, who is 17 and last year attended Waterloo Colle- giate, said the bursary was one the school itself gives, based on the quality of the audition. F It's been a casé of one award leading to another. The school, founded only three years ago, is unique in the province in that it combines the regular Grades 7-13 academic studies with intensive training in either music, theatre and dance. Jennifer will be taking her Grade 12 and' specializing in theatre. Jennifer says she is uncertain as to whether she will take her Grade 13 there as well, or apply for entrance to Canada's Nation- al Theatre School in Montreal. She says she developed her interest in theatre from her mother, who coaches young peo ple interested in acting. Both her mother and father have been involved with local little theatre as well. N Jennifer, who has appeared in shows with K-W Musical Produc- tions during the Iatt couple of years, also has been teaching dancing at the Suetta School of Dance, "as a student teacher, for about a year and a half." "They have a speech category there, and competition is carried out the same way as in the musical categories." After theatre comes her enthu- siasm for horseback riding. "J've always loved horses, and when I was about seven I guess, I had a friend who went to riding school, and I started going too." This year, she won every award except one in the junior category at the Circle A Ranch riding school in Guelph.
