PAGE 22 â€" WATERLOO CHAMONICLE, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21, 1982 Waterioo fans had plenty to cheer about Friday at Cameron Heights gym â€" which hasn‘t exactly been a kind locale over the years. In the past two years Cameron Gaelis have authored the demise of first Waterloo Vikings and this year Bluevale Knights in their attempts to wrestle Waterloo County basketball crowns from the powerhouse Kitchenâ€" er school. But Friday during the annual County high school Classic featuring allâ€"star players from the WCSSAA loop, a pair of Bluevale standouts led the way as their "Green"‘ team defeated the "Golds," featuring no less than six Cameron players, 66â€"62 Pacing the Green attack was sliender grade 12 Knight Keith Lazenby who last week was named to the first allâ€"star team. Lazenby had 16 of his club‘s points while Craig Kermer, Lazenby‘s teammate at BCIl and it was a battle of the Greens and Golds in Friday‘s Waterioo County high school basketball aliâ€"star game and Waterioo fans had a tough time deciding which team to cheer for as Craig Kermer and Keith Lazenby of Bluevale Knights sided with the Greens and Carey Lee and Todd Smith of Waterioo collegiate with the Golds. Greens, paced by Lazenby‘s 16 points and Kermer‘s 11, won the close contest 66â€"62. in top left photo, Knights shine in allâ€"star classic Lazenby, Kermer pace winners Photoâ€"story by Rick Campbell secondâ€"team county allâ€"star,. was next in line for the winners with 11. . Actually. the battle lines even among Waterloo support were drawn prior to the match as WCI Vikings Carey Lee and Todd Smith were selected to line up with the Gold squad which divided Waterloo support. Lee had three points while Smith, while kept off the scoreshset, exhibited his usdal determination. At that time, master of ceremonies Gary Boug also announced that Cameron‘s [ashionable centre Dave Kipfer was the recipient of this year‘s Mike Moser Memorial Award going to the player best displaying the attributes of sportsmanship and ability as displayed by the late Twin City and UW star. The game understandably lacked some of the polish of the regular season as many players have been away from the game for a month or more. but still contained many entertaining moments for the large throng in at tendance Biggest beneficiaries for the evening were the Big Brother and Sister organizations in the Region who received all proceeds from the contest netting in excess of $1.000.
