PAGE 22 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 1982 Tim Fedy has no excuse naw. _ ‘‘"Maybe you‘ll be able to get to practice earlier next year," quipped Waterloo Siskin coach Rod Seiling in Fedy‘s direction Tuesday night as the Siskin right winger accepted a watch from Frank‘s Jewellers given Fedy for being selected Siskin most valuable player for the 1981â€"82 season. *"Sure you can quote me, it‘s true,""‘ Seiling told a reporter, cracking another head table smile. ‘"But he‘s (Fedy) also an excellent choice, it wasn‘t too hard to realize that when he was out of the lineup, we went on our slide." Fedy, lauded for his leadership as well as onâ€"ice contributions, deservedly took MVP honors, while veteran goalie Jeff Nickel was voted player contributing most on and off the ice. OHA president Brent Ladds was guest speakâ€" er at the function and gave an informative talk on the background of the OHA, the role of officials, and the importance of volunteer personnel to a team. A rookte defenceman and firstâ€"year forward shared centre stage as Roger Carlaw and Pat Hinnegan each took home two awards. ° Carlaw, touted by many to be one of the most promising young prospects coming out of the Waterloo system, won the best defenceman trophy and also rookie of the year for his reliable blueline work. Hinnegan, who joined Siskins from Woodstock this year and ultimately turned out to be an invaluable performer, won the leading goalâ€" scorer and high point trophies, both categories he would have been in a tussle with linemate Fedy had the later not succumbed to a viral infection late in the season. â€" The most improved player award went to defenceman Dennis Brox, Peter Young in perhaps the best choice of the night earned best defensive player honors, and graduating deâ€" fenceman Shawn Mulroney took home the sportsmanship combined with ability award as well as a special honor donated by the Siskin training staff. Fedy‘s award was one of many given Tuesday at Siskins‘ annual fete at Woolner‘s Lodge. In a synopsis of Siskins‘ past season, Seiling told the audience that although he wasn‘t pleased with his club‘s semiâ€"final exit to Stratford, many goals were reached in helping his players develop not only their hockey skills but also as individuals. Director‘s awards went to viceâ€"president Rich Beaupre and director Ron Herter. â€" Fedy one to ‘watch‘ next year The ponies are ready at EImira Siskin award winners Tuesday were top (iâ€"r) Peter Young, Tim Fedy, Shawn Mulroney, Dennis Brox and bottom (iâ€"r) Roger Carlaw, Jeff Nickel, and Pat Hinnegan.
