Waterloo will have its own flea market each Sunday beginning this coming weekend. _ _ The Uptown Flea Market will be located in the GM Auctions building at 56 King St. N., acâ€" cording to Gordon McComb who owns the auction company. McComb expects between 30 and 40 vendors this first Sunday, featuring everything from anâ€" tiques to crafts, clothing to baked goods. ‘"You‘d be surprised the interâ€" est we‘ve gotten"" from vendors, McComb said. "It‘s a chance to be in business for one day a week ... and since everyone is looking for extra money, it‘s a chance to turn stuff from around the house into cash." McComb learned that clasâ€" sified ads do get response. "The first night I placed an ad for vendors in the Chronicle, I had 14 calls." The Uptown Flea Market, which will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., is the only one in the area, McComb said. "I think the closest is probably in Guelph." He decided to open the flea market after getting "lots of inquiries. What really put a bug in my ear was when Thursday night customers, who operate their own booths at flea markets, told me ‘you have a beautiful location here for one‘." "I had the space anyway, so thought I‘d give it a try." â€" McComb, who is from Glen Morris, opened GM Auctions a year and a half ago. Each Thursday evening at 730 he holds an auction featuring used goods and antiques. Then on Sundays at 1: 30 p.m.. brand new items are auctioned. During the week McComb‘s wife Joanne looks after the store, which sells new furniture. As well, she ac cepts consignments for Thursday night‘s auction McComb is pleased with his choice to set up shop in Waterloo "It‘s like a big club here. Every body is so cooperative," he said.
