On April 1 a new restaurant officially opens its doors at 64 King St. S. (where the Maranatha Cafe was located). Holtmann grew up in the busi ness in Germany where her parents operated a restaurant She followed in their footsteps both in Europe and since coming to Canada 12 years ago The Alpenhorn Restaurant is owned by Edith Holtmann, who‘s been involved in the food and beverage industry "my entire life." For the past three years Holt mann cooked food for the Lion‘s Club Oktoberfest booth in the Kitchener Farmer‘s Market ‘*People really liked it and said 1 should go into my own busi ness," she explained The Alpenhorn, with a seating capacity for about 150, features European ® and Canadian food, with speciaities such as Schinken brot (smoked beef) and Met twurst brot (a kind of salami) which will both be served on a wooden board complete with ‘"real European dark bread." Holtmann said. ""I ship all over the place now," he said. "And people come in from Toronto, Hamilton, Linâ€" wood ... the other day a woman was in from Vancouver and placed an order." What began as a partâ€"time endeavor soon blossomed into a fullâ€"time business for Pritchard, and today he‘s clearly pleased to be in such demand. Pritchard began handcrafting frames years ago while teaching art to foster children. ‘"They wanted to display their picâ€" tures,"‘ he explained *‘but couldn‘t afford to buy frames. So I started making frames for them." PDR also sells artwork by local talent such as David Crow and Richard Kauk. (Pritchard disâ€" plays some of his own paintings as well). In addition, customers are invited to make their own brass rubbings using molds which are replicas from Engâ€" land. Pritchard provides the paper and wax and gives a complete history of each mold. As well, Pritchard specializes in displays for old photos. "Everybody has a box full of old photos tucked away in a drawer or attic‘ which can be attracâ€" tively grouped and framed, he noted. A new specialty shop has complement each type of fondue, opened in Uptown Waterioo. whether it be meat, cheese or PDR Picture Frames & Galâ€" chocolate, she said. PDR Picture Frames & Gaiâ€" lery, located for four years at Market Village in Kitchener, has now relocated to 112% King St. S., according to owner G. Ross Pritchard of Sunview Street. PDR features frames "of all shapes and sizes ... all different things no one else makes in this area," said Pritchard. His unique handmade frames include 12â€"sided shadow boxes for displaying collectors‘ plates; velâ€" vetâ€"lined, mirrorâ€"backed curio cabinets to hang on the wall; and wooden oval frames of any size. She has applied for a liquor licence, and if it comes through Holtmann hopes to turn one section of the eatery into a fondue room "You need the right atmo sphere" for fondueâ€"style eating. And a glass of wine would nicely The Inside Track KARLA WHEELER Regional Search, located in the same building as PSR Software at 279 Weber St. N., "offers a full employment consulting service," Keilhau said Their service ranges from see retarial (both temporary assign ments and permanent place ments) to permanent placements in markets such as data process ing, engineering, manufacturing, accounting, finance, sales and marketing The first several months in business "have been going quite well" according to Karl Keilhau, who along with partner Patricia Teele, started Regional Search Consultants this past November The company alsoâ€" provides executive search capabilities, Keilhau noted Both he and Teele have a number of years of experience in the employment consulting field. Teele "wears a number of hats" in the new company, Keilhau explained, including that of office adgministrator,. accountant, as well as coâ€"ordinator of both temporary and permanent secre tarial placements Many companies find out too late that the "soft costs"" (costs for software as opposed to hardâ€" ware) "usually outstrip the hard costs," Broadley said. According to Broadley, PSR was formed because he and Grace found that "manufacturâ€" ers were not giving customers the best possible quality of softâ€" ware or service for software." Instead, he explained, manufacâ€" turers "just try to sell hardâ€" ware," regardless of whether or not a customer needs new equipâ€" ment. "I do consulting in the other areas,"" Keilhau said *‘"We have no tie with any hardware manufacturer,‘‘ Broadley noted. ‘"So we can give an honest opinion." And PSR aims to keep its clients from being unpleasantly surprised. ‘"We make sure they are fully aware of what it will cost them." Broadley and Grace have a combined total of 30 years of experience in the data processing field. Troy Broadley of Kitchener and Pat Grace of Waterloo reâ€" cently teamed up to form a new data processing consulting comâ€" pany, PSR Software Services Ltd., located at 279 Weber St. N., across from Canadian Tire. For instance, Broadley and Grace will evaluate equipment on the market and make sure a client gets the right hardware; offer advice on what kind of software package the firm really needs; assist in debugging softâ€" ware; and act as programming troubleshooters when needed. Open since Feb. 1, PSR offers companies a consulting service which includes miniâ€"computer equipment evaluation, debugging and special programming assisâ€" tance. The Alpenhorn will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. B ORDER 1 reprint or enlargeâ€" ment at our regular low prices and receive the 2nd print of the same negative for only 1 cent.
