Bluevaie‘s Craig Kermer was named most valuable player at Saturday‘s Stayner basketball invitational, won by Knights with three straight victories. They are out of the County picture, but Bluevale Knights senior boys basketball team ended its season on a winning note capturing the Stayner Invitational Saturday. In making their way to the top of the eightâ€"team event, Knights waltzed undefeated through three straight games, including a 50â€"37 championship win over Owen Sound West Hill. Knights began the tournament with a 62â€"36 win over Borden high school, with Kermer bagging 20 and Lazenby 12. ‘"Overâ€"all looking at individuals, Gassewitz and Faulhammer, who will likely be starters for us next season, both had good tournaments, they just did a lot of really good things," said Rajnovich. ‘"And Brian Mitgang did a good job defensively .‘ Keith Lazenby had 14 for the winners while tournament most valuable player Craig Kermer added 12. Mike Gassewitz with eight and Rob Faulhammer with seven also contributed to the cause. Acton high was Bluevale‘s next victim, falling 57â€"35 as Kermer hit for 14, Lazenby 12, Gassewitz 10 and Faulhammer eight. The triumph was the third this year for Bluevale over Owen Sound. They slipped by their northern foe by nine to win Bluevale‘s own invitational, then buried them by 30 in Listowel five weeks ago. ‘"Everybody played, in fact we had eight or nine in the scoring, we just kept subbing, and ran, ran, ran," described Bluevale coach Tom Rajnovich. ‘"Basically we put it (victory) away in the third quarter when we outscored them 18â€"8, the rest was fairly even."
