The Drama Depart- ment of the University of Waterloo will pres- ent Victorians from Thursday. Feb. 25 to Saturday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. in the university's Theatre of the Arts. Tickets are $3 for adults and S2 for stu- dents and seniors. The play explores contradictory attitudes and interests prevalent in Victorian England through popular period verse and music. Students to present Victoriana From tomorrow through March 14. the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery will pres- ent an exhibition of more than 40 sketches aid paintings by artist and explorer William G. R. Hind. Exhibition illustrates William Hind's re- markable contribution as a painter of Can- ada's past. In 1861, he joined his brother Henry on a Labrador expedition. Like Cana- dian artist Paul Kane and American artist George Catlin, Hind was much interested in native people. J. Russell Harper, Curator of McCord Mu- seum concedes howev, er that Hind's water- color sketches are more factual. In 1862, Hind joined, as expedi- tion artist, a group travelling overland to the gold rush in Cari- bou. His drawings of Buffalo hunting on-the prairies. of Cree Indi- ans, and of everyday life on the trail and in the mining towns of British Columbia were sent to the British Isles to induce people there to emigr "1' to Canada. Tickets for Saturday are $7.50 in advance or $8.50 at the door. Peo- pie are invited to skate during the evening or Just watch the Cana- dian band. The group is winding up its Eastern Cana- dian tour, making stops in Quebec and Ontario before returning to its hometown of Winnipeg. Saturday's Waterloo performance is the last on the group's current tour. Hind lived and died in obscurity. Almost completely unknown until 1967, his pleasing doned painting as a profession.
