So instead, stockingâ€"footed Tim Fedy passes off last year‘s aborted campaign with Waterioo Siskins with a shrug, halfâ€"smile and a look that reeks of "you know how it was". Powerplay goals, shorthanded goals, pictureâ€"perâ€" fect goals and goals that would make a junk collector cringe with embarrassment. But regardless of how they went in, they all counted one on the scoreboard and the Schlueter Chev winger became known as a scoring assassin, waiting to swoop at any minute to bulge the twine. . 4 Only two short semesters ago, Fedy or Feds as he is known to his teammates, was the Mike Bossy of the Hub League midget series, scoring goals at a recordâ€"setting rate. Coupled with youngsters Duanne Moeser and Todd Loveday at the start of last season with Siskins, Fedy rode the wave of the brash energetic youth movement to, at worst, a notably succ¢essful start. But when the scoring stopped, so soon did the beautiful music and rumoredly by mutual decision with management Fedy drifted in the "scratch from your program" nether region. Soured perhaps by the experience, Fedy returned under a new regime in September, a year older, and bound and determined to make his mark. ‘"I thought I had something to prove at the start of this year," said Fedy Sunday after Siskins clipped Owen Sound 4â€"3. "I didn‘t know (coach) Rod (Seiling) or the rest of management except Pete (Brill), and I went out just hoping to make the team. I was just another face, starting from scratch." The latest league scoring stats, showing him atop the heap and with 27 goals in 28 games, attest to his degree of achievement in that direction. Much along the lines of Oakland Raider quarterâ€" back Jim Plunkett last season, Fedy‘s confidence has snowballed to the point where he is regarded as one of the best, if not the best at his position in the Midwestern loop. An early camp ankle injury added more woes to his thoughts of making the club, but when he did return to the lineup late in the exhibition schedule, ample ice time proved the ideal remedy, a muchâ€"needed confidence builder for an 18â€"yearâ€"old who a year earlier had been badgered by first hints of selfâ€"doubt in his ability. ' Working with centre Pat Hinnegan and left sider Jeff Job, Fedy has continued his deadly scoring, but WATERLOO CHRONICLE, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1981 even more important, h‘s become a multiâ€"dimensionâ€" al player, throwing his ‘weight around with almost unheardâ€"of reckless abandon, forechecking relentâ€" lessly, and going both ways every shift. > « ‘‘I‘ve been working on my checking, 1 HAD toâ€"work on my checking, the contact really gets me into the game, and the more I‘m into the game, the more effective I am allâ€"around." His emergence as a team leader, a role he relishes and respects both on and off the ice, has led to Fedy being appointed captain of Siskins, just one of several ‘"nice‘‘ things he wasn‘t anticipating at the beginging of the season. Leading the league in scoring is anâ€" other. ‘"Our line, we all work hard, we‘re all pretty heady players, and what‘s most important, we don‘t care who gets the goals just as long as we keep getting them." Perhaps the most admirable aspect of Fedy‘s season to date rest with the fact‘ that in recent times he has been forced through injuries to Hinnegan and Job, to play with an assortment of others, yet has come through just as much in both the scoring and checking énd of things. ~o . Yet another plum is Fedy‘s selection, along with Job and Hinnegan, to the Midwestern South allâ€"star team in next week‘s Miracle Junior B tournament. ‘"They (management) chose set lines, so®everyone‘s working with players they know. The word that‘s going around since nobody knows about the other teams is that the one (team) that wants it the most will win. I know I‘m taking it really seriously." "It (injuries) sure doesn‘t help, I like to look over and see Pat (Hinnegan) there in the middle so I can dump the puck over ... then maybe follow in and pick up a garbage goal or two." Sheepish grin. . **‘They all count," he is reminded. *"‘That‘s for sure." Take it from one who knows.
