Dear Friends: I have enjoyed my first year as an elected public school trustee for the City of Waterloo. The visits to the schools in our County have been the highlight of this first year since I have become even more aware of the !many dedicated teachers in our system, as well as the many and varied needs of our students. I have been appointed to the following committees: Program; Bill 82; Education Week; Nonâ€"Academic Salary Negotiations; School Review; Committee Studying Students Leaving Secondary School, and Early School Leaving. While participating in Committee discussions, I have been impressed by the efficiency of our administrative staff and their dedication to providing the best possible education for our students. The move of the Board of Education offices to the former site of Greb Industries Limited on Ardelt Avenue in Kitchener will take place in December. Every effort continues to be made to establishing it as a true educational centre and one which will provide facilities the entire community can use. Topics such as the launching of apprenticeship programs, elementary school organization, French language instruction, Bill 82 continue to be discussed. It is important that the best interests of all children be |considered in reaching resolution of these issues. Even though the Board approved the expansion of its public relations program, | still feel there is a need to provide more communication between home, School Board and community. To that end, 1 hope that this short report will provide you with some information and prompt you to seek more. I would be happy to answer your questions at any time. | 1 am pleased that so many of you have taken the time to phone or write me about your concerns. In this way 1 can express your concerns to the Board and help find solutions to your problems. Thus, if you have any concerns or comments, please write me at the address below or phone me at 886â€"6554. Elizabeth Witmer, (é Trustee,~ 52 Ridgeview Crescent, E* aterioo, Ontario.
