Disease that had on many before Wretchedly taken its toll. But one it seized refused to let Affliction block his goal. "ERR Y The Lesson WA TERLOO CHRONICLE And in the nearly year since then, A hero he‘s become. One who brought us closerâ€"knit As a nation, and as one. Having run 3,000 miles and more Half the country in his fight He wakened us from sea to sea To his valor â€" and his plight. The hurt returned too often though Until that fateful day The first part of his journey Came to rest in Thunder Bay. What strength, what heart, what courage They adorned him with their praise And dollars too, that made him smile And eased his painâ€"filled days. Then, as if like night and day, The word began to spread Of heroes, courage, a 21â€"yearâ€"old Tackling the road ahead. The crowds began to swell and cheer Each city he would greet. A smile, a grin, a sweating form, All marvelled at his feat. Words by Rick Campbell HJNE 30, 1081
