Ralph Lintz Unwinds with a pitch during Chymers action at Centennial Park last Wednesday. Chymers pounded Hespeler 7â€"1 for their seventh win in eight tries. Lintz picked up the pitching decision. CHYM‘rs still by Jamie Haunn It‘s beginning to look like it‘s going to take some awfully hot bats to knock the Waterloo Chymers from their perch atop the Inter City Fastball League standings. Chymers continued to play sound defence behind their solid and deep pitching staff this past week as they won two â€"more games to boost their league reâ€" cord to 8â€"1 for the seaâ€" son. At the plate, meanâ€" while, John Cress paced a consistent atâ€" tack by hammering a couple of home runs. Thursday, Chymers hosted the lowly Hesâ€" peler squad and manâ€" aged to take a 7â€"1 deciâ€" sion. The game was closer than the score indiâ€" cates, however, as Waâ€" terloo led by only 2â€"1 after six complete in nings. ‘"‘Before the game 1 warned the fellows that a team has a tendency to jam up after winning a tournament,‘"‘ exâ€" plained field boss Glenn Moeser. The Chymers had captured the ICFL tourney crown the weekend beâ€" fore in Stratford. ‘"We regained our spark about the sixth inning but it took us until then to do it," said Moeser. Ralph Link picked up the win for the Chymers. The one run Hespeler did manage to score was unearned. Cress smacked a threeâ€"run homer off reâ€" lief pitcher Les Hosszu in the seventh inning to break open the tight contest. Friday in Burlington, the Waterloe rookie went threeâ€"forâ€"four at the plate including a solo home run, as the Chymers bested their hosts 4â€"1. Dave Goetz earned the pitching decision for the Chymers, yield ing eight hits. ‘"We have a lot of versatility and depth," said Moeser, "so I like to juggle the lineâ€"up and use everyone ‘‘As an example, John (Cress) played third base Thursday, and right field Friday. I‘m trying to move everybody around but keep the hot sticks in the lineup at the same time." Moeser was especialâ€" ly pleased with his team‘s continued brilâ€" liant play afield. ‘"We‘re really keeping the runs down," he said. ‘"‘That‘s only two runs in two games, again.‘"‘ s Chymers will have to continue to play the type of ball they have been playing if they hope to fair well in the Cold Springs tournaâ€" ment this weekend. Waterloo‘s first game in the 12 team doubleâ€"knockâ€"out affair is Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they face the Ottawa Turpin Pontiacs. This Thursday . Chymers host Stratford at Centennial Park.
