In Art, Applied Studâ€" ies, students must deâ€" vote eight of their 22 course selections to apâ€" plied studies, including essay writing, comâ€" puters, critical thinkâ€" ing and philosophy, and a second language. Stubbs said that as a result of these studies students come away with an honours degree program "which has prepared them for a wide range of jobs." The degree takes four years and eight months to complete, and is divided by a schedule of four months ‘"on‘‘ (taking courses at the University) and four months ‘"off" (working at an assigned job). The initial decision on what applied studies should be used in the coâ€"operative program was based on a survey of 5,000 grad students from Waterloo‘s arts division.
