MAY 20 198 1 Fiona Reid will make her first appearance with the Stratford Festival‘ this summer in two starring roles of the 1981 season: Lady Amaranth in John O‘Keeffe‘s restoration comedy Wild Oats and Adriana in Shakespeare‘s The Comedy of Errors. U ‘‘Performing at Stratford is something I‘ve dreamed of for years," Reid says. "I‘ve always wanted to do Shakespeare and I think to act in Shakespeare‘s plays at Stratford is the highest goal to which one can aspire in this country. I hope it doesn‘t sound like a cliche, but this year at Stratford will really be the fulfillment of a goal for me. I‘m thrilled to have the chance." Reid became one of Canada‘s bestâ€"known television personalities in her three years as Cathy, the King‘s wife in the popular CBC series King of Kensington. Her performance in the continuing role brought an ACTRA nomination as best actress as well as a wide public following. Since leaving the series in 1978, she has established a firm reputation as one of Canada‘s leading stage actresses with a wide variety of roles at theatres in Toronto and across the country. She was acclaimed for her performance as Charlie, the standâ€"up comedienne of Erika Ritter‘s Automatic Pilot in the original producâ€" tion for the New Theatre at Toronto‘s Adelaide Court and in the revival at the Bayview Playhouse last summer. Her roles in 1980 also included Billy Dawn in Born Yesterday for TAP at the St. Lawrence Centre, which brought her a Fiona Reid makes it to Stratford stage BORED WITH HOUSEWORK 341 MARSLAND DRIVE â€" WATERLOO PHONE 886â€"7777 ROLLER SKATE Mon. 8:00 â€" 11:00 p.m. â€" 21 & over Sun. 9:00 p.m. â€" 11:30 p.m. â€" 18 yrs. & over Thurs. 8:00 p.m. â€" 11:00 p.m. â€" 265 yrs. & ove Oor ADVULT EVENING SKLATE Reid also won critical praise as Cathy in John Murrell‘s Waiting For The Parade at the Tarragon Theatre in Toronto and at the Lyric Theatre in London, England. While she is noted especially for the skill she brings to comic characters, or serious characters who simply find themselves in comic situations, she is also at home with such dramatic roles as Nina in Chekhov‘s The Seagull which she performed recently at the Neptune Theatre in Halifax in a production that was directed by John Neville and also starred Tony Randall. Dora Mavor Moore Award nomination for outstanding performance in a leading role. Other major stage roles in recent years include Anne in David Rudkin‘s Ashes, directed by Pam Brighton at the Phoenix Theatre in Toronto, Helen of Troy in Trojan Women at the St. Lawrence Centre and Kate Hardcastle in She Stoops To Conquer at the Manitoba Theatre Cenâ€" tre. Last fall, Miss Reid appeared in a satirical revue, Nobody‘s Fools, presented at the Chelsea Theatre Centre in New York. She is at present starring in Tom Stoppard‘s Night and Day at the Centaur Theatre in Montreal.
