Douglas Cassidy, chairman of the negotiating committee of the Waterioo Professional Firefighters Associâ€" ation, said in an interview Monday he intends to put out feelers to the city for renewed contract negotiations . Firemen will call negotiator Cassidy said that he "made the decision as chairman‘‘ to make the contact. All that remains, he said, is for the firefighters‘ threeâ€"man negotiating committee to sit down and discuss how they will approach the city. "In about two days time we‘ll phone Don Schaefer (city treasurer) and see if the city wants to talk," Cassidy said. Negotiations for a 1981 contract broke down last March, and a decision about any, wage increase has gone to arbitration. Technically though, it is possible to return to the bargaining table at any time, providing both sides agree. One stipulation Cassidy makes is "the city has to budge from its current offer before we do anything .‘ So far Waterioo officials have stood by their offer of a 10.5 percent increase in wages for the firefighters for each of the next two years. But the firefighters want a 16.67 percent increase for each year.
