The league came into being when Stairs decided to enter a team in the Word of Life tournament, an an- nual event held at Schroon Lake, NW. Word of Life is a world-wide organization geared to the young which combines religious instruction with athletics. “Religious instruction, initially, was one of our ob- jectives," Stairs said of the league that had its hum- ble beginnings at the John St. First Baptist Church. But the competitive side isn't lost either. Last year the senior high girls team placed third at the in- ternational tournament at Schroom Lake.
