This past weekend the Minor Midget town- town Businessmens As- sociation' Downtowners travelled to Guelph to participate in their Tenth Annual Royal City Hockey Tournament, There were eight teams competing in the Minor Midget Division of the Tournament. In Group A were the Hamilton Hus- kies, Oakville. Buffalo Regals and Kitchener Kavaliers and in Group B were Amherst, New York, Etobicoke Wolves. Guelph and Wa- terloo Downtowners. The Downtowners met Amherst. New York in their first game of the round robin series, In the dying minutes, Amherst pulled their goalie for the extra at- tacker, but, the move backfired as Jamie Young scored from John McKerrow with 41 se- conds left in the game. This gave the Down- towners the 6-4 victory. Saturday afternoon the Downtowners met Etobicoke and Helmut Kliewer shut them out 4- The win put the Down- towners up against the Kitchener Kavaliers in the Semifinals on Sun- day. In their round robin series the Kavaliers tied their three games to take second place. With their loss Guelph went 'lt against the Hamilton uskies who had two At the end of regula- tion time the score was tied at 5-5 to force the game into overtime. But in the first period of overtime Helmut Kliewer and Brad Mar- tin played shut-out goal to force a second over- time period. With 3:151en in the se- cond period of overtime Peter Dietrich scored Husiies who had two wins and a tie. The Columbia Racquet Club of Waterloo ran a two-day, double-knockout tourney recently to determine its representatives to the Labatt racquetball championship set for Toronto in February. Thié win pitted the Downtowners against the Hamilton Huskies who had defeated Guelph in earlier in the day, from Brent Ellis and Mike lnnocente to give the Downtowners the 6-5 victory, . _ . With 2:37 left. the Downtowners picked up a minor penalty. while the Huskies picked up a double minor. But neither team was able to score in the re- maimng time of play to give the Downtowners the 4-3 Victory, This win gave the 'Downtowners Busmess- mens Association' Downtowners the cham- pionship and made them the only undefeated team in the Tournament.
