TEAM OF THE YEAR WATERLOO EXPOS â€" Took a bit of reasonâ€" ing, there was some competition but the way Expos overcame adverâ€" sity to pull together and win the OBA title in Toronto had to be the heartwarming story of the year. To say nothing of the fact they won the Interâ€"County pennant and were Iâ€"C league finâ€" alists. Honorable mention â€" Waterioo Belie Lionetâ€" tes. Waterloo Dolphins, WLU soccer Hawks, WCJI track and field. That‘s what went into making this year in sports what it was, not the results at the end of the game, the competiâ€" tion, the season, but the effort put forth to get there. For some Waâ€" terloo teams and inâ€" dividuals, 1980 was a year to be cherished. Others will forget it at the drop of a hat. It was a unique year for me, because more than ever | reâ€" member 1980 as a year that forced me to dig deep to make use of all my resourâ€" ces. Winning is easy to write about, but controversy, heartâ€" break and sorrow isn‘t. Still, 1 survived and am probably ‘the better for it. Others are too, hopefully. But ~â€"what the heck, it‘s a happy time of year, and here, with my annual awards, are what 1 remember best. [(Chronicle yearâ€"end awards ) Another year passes into the reâ€" cord books. COACH OR MANAGER OF THE YEAR ~JERRY SCHARLACH â€" An award long overâ€" due for the many, many hours and many, many seasons the man has deâ€" voted to teaching sport, especially baseball, to the youth of Waterloo. An award dedicated to someone who shys away from such recognition, but deserves it nonethâ€" eless. champion, and this year should provide much needed valuable exâ€" perience. Very little question, a superb athleâ€" te EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR WATERLOO CHYM‘RS â€" Hands down,. no doubt, few competitors to rival the efficiency, â€" comraderie and downright friendâ€" liness of this crew, even when the club loses on JERRY SCHARLACH ... years of dedication O."l WEDNESDA Y DECEMBER 24 NICE GUY WALLY DELAHEY â€"If the UW football Warriors are ever going to have a winning seaâ€" son, I want to be around to report on it.
