Wateriloo Tigers of the Interâ€"County Major Baseball League anâ€" nounced today the signing of Gary Jeffries as field manager for the 1981 season. -'Ac;a'a;fl')v for the goftâ€"spoken yet strongâ€"willed Toronto native, the appointment marks the return to the position he so successfully filled in 1978 when Tigers joined the Iâ€"C loop after a 21â€"year absenâ€" And both Jeffries and the new Tiger organization eagerly anâ€" ticipate his return with the hopes he can help rescue the Waterioo ship that sank to its modernâ€"day lowest depth last summer with an 11â€"19 lastâ€"place record. Jeffries, the coâ€"ordinator of Intraâ€"mural Athletics at Wilfrid Laurier University and assistant coach with Tuffy Knight‘s vaunted football Hawks, began his Interâ€"County baseball career in Guelph in 1963. He advanced up through the Detroit Tiger organization from 1967â€"69. then after incurring arm problems switched sports and gave pro football a shot with Hamilton Tiger Cats in the early 1970‘s before joining the staff at WLU.
