The school was gradually phased out after Waterloo College of Arts was established in 1924. The following year the College was affiliated with the Uniâ€" versity of Western Ontario â€" an affiliation which lasted thirtyâ€"four years. By an Act of 1959, the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary which had maintained Waterloo College and Waterloo Seâ€" minary was renamed Waâ€" terloo Lutheran Univerâ€" sity." In 1973 the institution seâ€" vered ties with the Church in order to receive full grants and changed its name to Wilfrid Laurier Univerâ€" sity.
