The meet ran only select events and was held at Kitchener‘s Centennial Stadium. _ Of particular note were the performances of the middle distance group from Waterloo. Not because records were set or races won but because of the great number of perâ€" sonal best performances. . According to coaches Pete Grinbe\;gs and Bruce Pinder, the performances came in the form of a pleasant shock. The low key nature of the meet and the absence of age classes in the competition are not usually the ingredients for better than average races. _ ~Eleven Waterloo athletes competed in the 1500m event and eight personal best performances were recorded. Listed below are the athletes that competed and their comparative times. Chris Mitchell Todd McCuaig Mark Osmund Beth Merikle Cathy Bauer Brad McCuaig Mark Egers Especially pleasing were the efforts of the Bantam age competitors. Lori Dietrich and Leanne Pinder chopped off 25 and 24 seconds, respectively, from their previously best Midd|eâ€"â€"â€"_Ladies Softball Angela Pinder continued her torrid pace by loweringâ€"her time another six seconds to record a 5:28.6. Just two weeks previous, the 11â€"yearâ€"old Pinder was running the 1500m in 5:55.0. Ron Sprung ran his first 1500m in a very respectable 5:25.3. Mark Egers turned in an excellent performance loâ€" wering his previous best of 5:29.0 to 5:16.0. Angela Pinder Lori Dietrich _ Meanwhile Brad McCuaig surprised everyone by running a 5:03.4; 16 seconds lower than his previous best time. Midâ€" get competitors Beth Merikle and Todd McCuaig also added to the long list of personal best performances. Merikle ran a very strong race with a 5:12.0 posting and McCuaig, in only his second 1500m outing, lowered his first time of 4:44.0 by 10 seconds. The next competition will be the Royal Canadian Legion Bantam/Midget Provincial Championships this Saturday, July 19, 1980 at Centennial Stadium in Kitchener. â€"distance Waterloo‘s â€"strength qualify for $500 CHIP Homes built before 1961 grant.
