Tl;at z;lsb happens to be one of the argumen-t-s used to lobby against gunâ€"control législation â€" that we can only be safe from gunâ€"toting loonies when everyone has a gun. _ Soon after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the U.S. authorities began clearing the political path sharing some of their highâ€"technology military secrets with China. ‘lhe{tea- lized that although China already has nuclear weapons and missiles, it lacks the electronic wizardry to deliver punishâ€" ing retaliation to Russia‘s most sensitive targets â€" the only sure defence against invasion.. After all, Afghanistan would probably have been safe from invasion, if it could have exâ€" pressed its displeasure by disintegrating most of Moscow. That makes sense. But why stop with guns? Everyone knows that merely lockingâ€"doors, or latching garden gates won‘t deter potential murderers or rapists or burglars, or even terrorists looking for hostages. But if everyone had a nuclear bomb in the basement, even the most determined burglar or terrorist would think twice about doing anything to trigger an exploâ€" sion that would utterly vaporize him â€" along with his potenâ€" tial hostages or loot, and a whole neighborhood to boot. Not all that secure, eh? It can be argued that nuclear weapons are too dangerous for the average citizen, but okay for a country‘s leaders. That assutmes that those leaders (whether democratically elected or brought into power by military means) are someâ€" how more sane, more dependable, than average citizens. That‘s elitist. It‘s also false. Politicians and rulers, at home and abroad. have been shown to be just as prone to weakâ€" ness, self deception and promiseâ€"breaking as anyone else. So if you can‘t trust your neighbour to have an atomic bomb in his basement, should you trust China to have one? Has the world gone mad? To Whom It May Concern: This is an open letter to all Canadians who value their Country, way of life and above all their FREEDOM. I am writing this because I would not be able to forgive myself if I had not at least voiced my opinion and concern re: the present world situation. . â€" Do you know â€" you politicians and countless little chiefs and department heads in government â€" that you are virtuaily sitting on a giant powder keg that could blow up at the slightest provocation?? 1 doubt it, because you are so igâ€" norant and complacent, busy with your own little wars and feuds against each other that you fail to see what is going on in the world. Please wakeâ€"up; it is very late: maybe too late. Do someâ€" thing constructive like sticking together. Forget about your mudâ€"slinging at each other. Mr. Clark is especially good at it. All he does is tell everyone how useless, ignorant and inâ€" competent his opponents are. Why don‘t you use your Godâ€" given brains to help each other? Help our country, work together and find a solution to the problems facing you. Try to find a common denominator to smooth the differences of opinions. Remember: where there is a will there is a way, and also more important: A house divided cannot stand. I wonder how many of you fellow Canadians ever read hisâ€" tory books or looked at the world map. If you would study the globe a bit more closely you could see that we (too) could be swallowed up by Russia â€" sooner or later. In Cuba Fidel Castro has opened his door to the Russians. If he thinks he will ever get rid of them he is sadly mistaken. Once the Soviets are someplace they stay. They did not come for a picnic. The two world ideas, Communism and Capitalism will never mix: this combination is like oil and water. Maybe we should try and find a middle way. The Russians are too radical in all they do â€" and the Wesâ€" tern nations are too lenient and trusting. The only way we can preserve our way of life is by uniting all Western naâ€" tions and the ones who oppose Russian domnination. Fortunately Canada is not dependent on Russia forâ€" anyâ€" thing. So sever all ties with Russia! This is a bigger blow (and safer) than anything else we can do. Image and prestige means a great deal to them. ~*% We could not do much anyway against a possible invasion. We hardly have an army or navy to speak of. This is a crime. Jug:enow. our politicians think of this â€" put our young men into the Armed Forces for 18 months to two years. This The Russians are a power not to be reckoned with. Make no mistake about this. They have had 40 years to build up their economy, use their resources, build a large and efâ€" ficient army (and navy), train men and women in every field of the sciences (space research), medicine, sports etc. Above all: they are secretive. Nothing is divulged that they don‘t want known. This trait is very valuable for surprise actions of any kind. I shudder to think how many of these soâ€"called defectors to the West are spies â€" highly trained spies. Do you really think these oil spills and wrecked tankers are all accidents? Think again. And all these strikes? These people are experts in creating unrest, dissatisfaction, sabotage and staging strikes. They get the people agitated enough so they will rise against their own government. and before you know it we will have a revolution. Then they come as the liberators because we. supposedly, are unable to handle our own afâ€" fairs. Now lets take a look at Iran. There is no doubt in my mind that Khomeini is but a puppet used by the Russians. He does what he is told. He was in France for a long time. Heaven knows what promises he received from Russia to return from exile. The Iranian people would never oppose the Uâ€"S.A. and keep the hostages for such a long time if they had no backing from someone else â€" and we know who that is by now. The American hostages will not be released until the Russians say so (of course they are still lingering in the background) â€" the time is not yet right for them. They need â€"_â€"Commentâ€" ( JUST WHENTGET THE : 1 HANG OF DRAWING CLARK ! 7 It would be a good idea if we all would count our blessings once in a while. Believe me, we have it very good â€" and we have a lot to lose. This is from one who has seen it all before, and has been through Hell! (Europe, Second World War, Concentration Camp. Bombings etc.) Politics should not enter the Olympiad. I agree. Only to the Russians the games are politics. They want to show the West how superior they are in every type of sports. I wouldn‘t want to go there; especially when they show with all their actions how they despise the West and our ideas. They only use us. Our athletes are not allowed to associate with the ordinary Russian people in case they get ideas from the West. Stay home, guard your own Country, work for it, and protect yourselves. I am sure if Canada takes a firm stand, others will follow.. This note is especially for our politicians: don‘t be such blabbermouths. Keep your mouths shut and work behind the scenes for a change. It is disgusting how you behav8 in Parâ€" liament â€" just like naughty little boys. Did you ever take a look at yourselves and listen to your shouting matches? You are supposed to do what is best for our Country â€" Canada this wonderful, beautiful land â€" don‘t run it into the ground. Unite and find a way to work together. This is the only way we will survive‘ Mr. Clark did a good deed by freeing the Americans from Iran. Unfortunately, the effect it could have had has been weakened by disclosing this action much too soon. It almost looks like a campaign gimmick : I don‘t like it, and a lot of other people don‘t either. this delay 7 Heaven knows what for. One thing is certain: they need the oil for their tanks, airplanes, ships and facâ€" tories. On the other hand, what good will oil be to anyone if there is hunger and no grain to be had? The Olympic games should be boycotted â€" but only to Mos« cow. Find another site, or postpone them. Please. _
