It is the longest continually: running fund raising event of its kind in North America. The 100 originally stood for a 100 mile course but like the rest of us they have gone meâ€" tric and it is now 100 kilometers. & . The event as originally organized to raise money for a Senior Citizens‘ apartment but this year the club‘s proceeds will go toward their project to send hanâ€" dicapped children to Disney World. In celebration of their tenth anniversary in Snoâ€"Do 100, the club is invitâ€" ing other organizations or groups to participate to raise money ‘for their own projects. Organizers will réturn 80 per cent of all moneï¬uind by outside groups or clubs to the charitable organization of their choice. The other 20 per cent will be used to defray the costs of running the event with any excess going toâ€" wards the Civitans current Disney World project. Pledge forms can be obtained from any area snowâ€" mobile dealer, Little Short Stop store or the Waterloo Motor Inn. The Bridgeport Snowmobile Club which operates out of the Bridgeport Rod and Gun Club near Maryhill will be hosting this event. Participants will register at the Waterioo Motor Inn on February 1 when they wili be assigned control numbers and bibs used in the runâ€" ning of Snoâ€"Do 100. A special Getting to Know Each Other party is scheâ€" duled after the meeting for the drivers and workers. The first machine will start the four to six hour run at 7:30 a.m. from the Bridgeport Rod and Gun Club. The route will be patrolled by air and on the ground. The organization originated in Burâ€" mingham, Alabama sixty years ago by a group of men from world War 1 who«lecided it was time that mental retardation was brought to the attention of the comâ€" munity. In 1930 the first international club was formed in Toronto and today there are Civitan Clubs throughout the world. The current project of the Kâ€"W Civitan Club is to send handicapped children to Disney World for five days in December 1980 prior to Christmas. The Civiâ€" tans define a handicapped child as any child physicalâ€" * ly, mentally or emotionally handicapped. Any child from six to 16 from Waterloo or Wellington county is eligible to enter. The Civitan Club in Orlando will host the children, each accompanied by a guardian with a â€" ~~Civitan couple for every group of six and one superâ€" vispry couple. Two days in Disney World are planned with one day at another location. No activities are ~_ scheduled for the two travel days. All expenses for both the child and guardian will be covered by the Civitan Club. Entry forms will be available in June 1980 from the Civitan Club at 144 Erb Street East, Waterloo. All enâ€" trants will receive a letter. Any child not selected will receive an application form the following year.
