P By Howard Elliott â€" & Chronicie staff writer Many employees of Waterloo Square will be walking a few blocks after parking their cars every morning, if Waterloo Alderman Blake Hull has his way. Last week Ald. The parking battle in downtownâ€"Waterloo is hardly new business. It has gone on for years now, but Hull and other alâ€" dermen such as John Shortreed are upset because the probâ€" lem is getting no better. Wednesday, December 19, 1979 Snow and Robert Welch, Energy â€" Minister,.. have agreed to participate with the Region to install the sysâ€" tem in an effort to "reduce energy consumption while providing smoother traffic flow _ ‘but fuel savings of more than two million litres per year could be realized." acâ€" cording to Snow The system is expected to improve traffic flow by as much as 10 to 20 per cent MTC will fund the cost of demonstration on a 50â€"50 basis As an alternative. He began playing his present set of bells as a means of writing music and learning new songs for the chimes Barrie‘s bells consist of three groupings "One group is called ship‘s bells; one group is just plain ordinary bells and the third group we actually had on sheep at one time,"‘ Barrie said Barme finds he is in demand at this time of year to play carols for church and senior‘s groups in the Kitâ€" chenerâ€"Waterloo area. The demand is heavy for seâ€" veral weeks and then tapers off sharply after Christâ€" He is happy to pack up his bells and cart them off to perform whenever he gets a call He says he‘s glad his present set of bells doesn‘t have a cumbersome handleâ€"like keyboard to carry around with him So how does he play his belis? It "*seems incredible‘‘ to Hull that employees at the Square come out at the end of the twoâ€"hour parking limit to clean chalk off tires or move their vehicles. The latest scheme to prevent employees from parking in customer spaces is presently in the hands of the City‘s adâ€" ministration committee for study. Hull hopes it will come before Council for final approval early in 1980. Presumably the cost of such standards would be split between mall manageâ€" ment and the City. *‘*To me, it seems to be a very unfortunate thing ... they must have an immature attitude,"‘ Hull said in an interview yesterday. © Another method would require close supervision by City bylaw officers to enâ€" sure that no cars were parked illegally.
