But making high qua- lity albums on a low budget, using 35 young singers and local production facilities is a tremendous feat. The Inter-Mennonite Chil- dren's Choir recently fin- ished work on such an album, and so far it has met with hearty approval from listeners. One of the members of that committee was John Van- derkooy, father of one of the choir members and associa,- te professor of physics at, the University of Waterloo. He also has a special in- terest in recording. Vanderkooy got together with Andiew Wedman, WLU music graduate in keyboard music and producer for UW radio station CKMS. After the ac- tual recording the two en- gineers and director Mar- tens spent many hours edit- ing and splicing the tapes to produce a high-quality re- cording. Due to limited finances, only 2,000 of the records were pressed. They are available locally, although some have been shipped across the country and to various radio stations. The CBC has promised to play it, according to Mrs. Main. " One announcer from Bri- tish Columbia sent the choir a letter congratulating them on a fine effort. "Marketing is now our main problem," Mrs. Main said, adding that she feels there is a definite market for good quality children's recordings. The Inter-Mennonite Chil- dren's Choir was founded se- veral years ago by Dr. Mar- tens.
