It will feature tours of the technical facilities, discusâ€" sions with school staff about the courses avaiiable, . and in some cases, a chance to take part in some ‘‘hands on‘‘ technical education work. â€" Brown said this is the first time this kind of evening has been held. ‘"Let‘s face it, a lot of peoâ€" ple don‘t realize that it a great deal of skill, 6 tration and talent to co te a technical education gram, and that good jobs can result on graduation," Brown said. ‘‘Certainly one aim open house is to giv dents a chance to see th portunities available," he said. "Ideally, we‘d like to ‘organize other evenings in which we concentrate on the actual jobs that are there for technical education stuâ€" dents." ‘‘*For years people have believed that if you can‘t handle an academic proâ€" gram, you go into a techâ€" nical education program," Brown said. ‘"That‘s not true. For instance if you are considering a career in elecâ€" tronics you must have more than a basic knowledge in mathematics." Brown stressed that the focus of tonight‘s session would be on the school proâ€" gram. Each high school will operate its own program within some general guideâ€" lines. Invitations were sent home with every Grade 8 student in the region. ‘"Right now we‘re concenâ€" trating on showing inâ€"comâ€" ing Grade 8 students and their parents what technical education has to offer them,"* Brown added.
