On Monday morning, fire destroyed two downtown businâ€" esses causing damage of around half a million dollars. Honest Sam‘s clothing store and the Captain‘s Chair resâ€" taurant were both completely gutted, and Alan Rigby‘s furâ€" niture next door sustained water damage. The blaze was reported to the Waterloo Fire Department groufia 3:30 am. Monday. According to Fire Chief John taller, the fire was wellâ€"advanced by the time firefighters and equipment arrived. Waterloo firefighter Delbert Scott was injured during the fire, when he caught his foot between the rungs of aâ€"conâ€" tracting actial laddér. He was taken to Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Hospital for treatment. There were two apartments above Honest Sam‘s and the Captain‘s Chair. One was vacant at the time of the fire, and the occupants of the other escaped without injury. The father and son who lived in the upstairs apartment lost #11 their belongings, however, and reports say they were not inâ€" He also said firefighters realized shortly after they arâ€" rived that they weren‘t going to be able to extinguish the blaze, so they concentrated instead on keeping it from spreading to neighboring businesses. K The fire marshalls office in London is investigating the cause of Monday‘s fire, and investigators from the Guelph office are still probing the cause of two earlier fires. _ On April 7, a huge blaze gutted the downtown Waterioo block bousing the Laundryman and several other businesâ€" ses. On May 21, the Waterloo Meat Marketâ€"one of the city‘s oldest businessesâ€"was destroyed by fire, and on July 13 the Charcoal King restaurant was heavily damaged by fire. Fritzie Silver is the owner of what was Honest Sam‘s clothing store. She and her husband bought the business 25 years ago, and until about seven years ago they also ran a branch of Honest Sam‘s in Kitchener. _ Owner of the Captéin's Chair restaurant is Michael Speck. He spent over $100,000 last year to revitalize his section of the building before opening the restaurant.
